what is sport massage?

Not just for athletes or those who participate in sport.

Sport massage is a form of soft tissue work that uses a number of different techniques to relieve muscular tension and pain. The techniques used include: effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, trigger point therapy, muscle energy technique (MET), soft tissue release, myofascial release, and stretch variations.

Sport massage is different to other massages, as it tends to be performed with more pressure, and has a particular outcome in mind rather than, say, relaxation. It considers the impact of activities on your body's muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia.

WHAT CAN SPORT MASSAGE TREAT?

Common conditions sport massage can treat includes:

  • Postural-related neck & shoulder pain

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Tendon-related pain

  • Knee pain

  • Achilles pain

  • Muscular spasms and strains

  • Poor circulatory conditions

  • Pre and post-surgical conditions

SPORT MASSAGE FOR GOAL ACHIEVEMENT

If it is not pain relief you're after, sport massage can improve the body's ability to move adequately by increasing muscular flexibility. It is also extremely beneficial for those who train regularly, and want an efficient recovery tool.
