Kayaks, Comebacks & Keeping You Pain-Free: Meet Edith

Hello! I’m Edith, a registered Physiotherapist in both the UK and Hong Kong. I’m passionate about supporting patients through their rehabilitation journey, helping them move better, feel stronger, and ultimately achieve a better quality of life. My approach is centred around understanding each individual and guiding them towards sustainable, long-term results.

My Journey into Physiotherapy

My interest in physiotherapy began during a hospital attachment programme in high school. It was there that I discovered how much I valued working closely with patients and how rewarding it is to support someone through recovery.

I completed my BSc in Physiotherapy at Keele University in 2017, followed by an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy in 2020, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Acupuncture in 2021.

Throughout my career, I’ve gained a wide range of experience, including 2 years in the NHS, over 4 years in private musculoskeletal clinics, and 3 years working with Hong Kong Women’s football Team.

These experiences have shaped my core belief: treat the patient, not just the condition. Every individual is different, and effective rehabilitation comes from understanding the whole person, not just their symptoms.

Special Interests

I have a strong interest in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, particularly working with active individuals and those looking to return to sport or physical activity. What I enjoy most is working with proactive and motivated patients, and seeing the satisfaction that comes from helping someone achieve their goals; whether that’s returning to sport or simply moving pain-free again.

Life Beyond the Clinic

Having lived independently in the UK for over 7 years since my teenage years, after being born and raised in Hong Kong, I’ve experienced many challenges and milestones that have shaped who I am today. These experiences help me connect with my patients; I understand how important it is to stay active and be able to do the things you enjoy.

I’ve always loved staying active. I grew up kayaking and trained regularly when I was younger. While I don’t train as intensely now, I still enjoy water sports during the summer. I also love outdoor adventures such as camping, hiking, and occasional snowboarding trips.

I relocated to the UK permanently with my boyfriend. I value a healthy work-life balance and enjoy making the most of my time outside the clinic. I’m also a proud dog parent to two very cute dogs, and I love travelling. My personal record being 11 trips in a single year!

Supporting My Patients

I’m particularly passionate about patient education, communication, and injury prevention. With my experience working alongside the Hong Kong Women’s Football Team, I’ve developed a strong understanding of how to support active individuals in both recovery and performance.

I focus on:

  • Clear education around injuries
  • Strength and conditioning programmes
  • Preventing recurrence and building long-term resilience

BONUS: Tips for Injury Prevention

Here are a few key principles I often share with my patients:

  • Strength and conditioning is essential, don’t skip it
  • Know your limits and progress gradually
  • Take time to understand the science behind your sport
  • Seek coaching or professional guidance when needed

Looking ahead I’m really excited to get to know and support the local community in Orpington, and to help more people stay active and pain-free.

My goal is simple: to keep a big smile on every patient’s face while guiding them through their recovery journey.
